Maps & Strategies

A strategy-centered class in the Gameschooling track, using map games to explore geography, history, movement, conflict, and long-range planning.

This class

  • Students use strategy map games to think about terrain, movement, borders, tradeoffs, and decision-making over time
  • The class can connect game situations back to real geography, historical patterns, and strategic choices
  • Live meetings can include play review, map analysis, discussion, and comparing different approaches
  • The goal is not just playing the game, but understanding what the map teaches and how strategies emerge from it

What families should know

  • Games, platforms, and materials vary by session and are shared before kickoff
  • Students should expect both gameplay and discussion-based analysis
  • Different sessions may emphasize historical context, geography, or strategy to different degrees
  • No advanced background is required unless a future session says otherwise
